Public Notice – 60-day consultation for the new edition of CSA B625

Opened on March 27, 2026, and closes on May 26, 2026.

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has released the draft of the update to safety standard CSA B625 for a 60-day consultation period. Safety standard CSA B625 sets out the design and manufacture requirements for UN portable tanks for the transport of dangerous goods. Once the safety standard has been finalized and published, a notice will be issued specifying the coming into force date of the updated standard.

CSA B625 draft: B625: Portable tanks for the transport of dangerous goods

Target audience

All Canadians are invited to participate in the online consultations. Those with a particular interest may include:

  • industry associations representing members who transport dangerous goods in UN portable tanks
  • facilities and other entities registered with Transport Canada under CSA B625
  • dangerous goods carriers and shippers

Summary of proposed Changes

Here are the most notable proposed changes that appear in the draft standard:

  • introduced technical requirements for fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) portable tanks used for dangerous goods of Classes 3 to 9
  • revised registration requirements, including removal of dynamic longitudinal impact test facilities from registration scope
  • updated certain provisions to harmonize with the 24th edition of the UN recommendations
