In 2020-21, Transport Canada completed our 3-year GBA Plus Action Plan and created a policy statement for 2021 and beyond. The statement was approved by the department’s Executive Management Committee (TMX) in November 2020.

The policy statement focuses on:

  • improving the quality and scope of GBA Plus
  • collecting and sharing more data, and
  • working with federal partners and other stakeholders

Throughout fiscal year 2020-21, we continued to promote GBA Plus through the Transport Canada intra-departmental GBA Plus Network, which has around 100 members that represent all regions and directorates.

Transport Canada also participated in inter-departmental and international meetings and events, promoted best practices on GBA Plus, and organized activities for GBA Plus Awareness Week/Gender Equality Week.

Our internal services expanded the use of GBA Plus with a number of projects, including:

  • creating a GBA Plus staffing checklist to help hiring managers apply an intersectional lens to the staffing process, like when developing a Statement of Merit Criteria
  • writing and publishing a GBA Plus report that focused on technical inspector positions in Transport Canada’s regions. The report included recommendations to senior management, and
  • integrating GBA+ into the new RegInfo Tool or “REGI” (a tool to help regulators develop regulations)

We also updated our suite of GBA Plus guidance material and tools and focused on integrating the latest whole-of-government guidance for mandatory processes. Work completed in early summer 2021.
