Scope of the standard

CAN/CGSB-43.146 sets out the requirements for design and manufacture of UN standardized IBCs with a capacity less than or equal to 5000 L (under certain conditions) and the selection and use of UN standardized IBCs and other equivalent specifications for transport of dangerous goods included in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 or 9.

Finding the standard in the TDG Regulations

Section 5.6 of the TDG Regulations specifies that an IBC manufactured in Canada is a UN Standardized Means of Containment (MOC) if it is in compliance with sections 2 and 3 and Part I of CAN/CGSB-43.146.

Subsection 5.12(1) of the TDG Regulations specifies that a UN Standardized small MOC selected and used in accordance with Part II of CAN/CGSB-43.146 is one of the permitted container types for the transport of dangerous goods in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 or 9.

Section 5.14 of the TDG Regulations specifies that a UN Standardized large MOC selected and used in accordance with Part II of CAN/CGSB-43.146 is one of the permitted container types for the transport of dangerous goods in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 or 9.
