Apply for ABP-A&R funding

The main objective of the Assessment and Removal Component of the Abandoned Boats Program is assisting with the removal and permanent disposal of abandoned and/or wrecked small boats.

The call for proposal for assessment and removal (A&R) projects is currently closed.

Please note that only one funding application is required for both the assessment and removal of abandoned boats.

The assessment and removal component (A&R) of the Abandoned Boats Program (ABP) funds the permanent removal of abandoned and/or wrecked small boats that pose a hazard in Canadian waters.

This component provides funding to:

  • conduct boat assessments for removals
  • remove and dispose of abandoned and/or wrecked small boats

Prerequisites

To be eligible for funding to assess or remove a boat through the ABP, applicants must first get authorization from the Navigation Protection Program (NPP) to take possession of it.

The NPP is responsible for determining whether a boat meets the definition of an abandoned and/or wrecked boat. Transport Canada’s Abandoned Boats Program (ABP) provides funding for the removal of abandoned and/or wrecked boats posing a hazard in Canadian waters.

To find out whether a boat meets the criteria and apply for permission to remove and dispose of the boat, contact an NPP regional office.
