Transport Canada invites the citizens of Frontenac, Lac-Mégantic and Nantes to read the Environmental Effects Evaluation report and provide comments by email at TC.InfoLacMegantic.TC@tc.gc.ca or online  https://letstalktransportation.ca/lets-talk-transportation-environmental-effects-evaluation-of-the-lac-megantic-railway-bypass-project until June 30, 2025. What does this evaluation include? This Environmental Effects Evaluation report combines various studies, some of which have previously been consulted with citizens. The Evaluation is based on the result of past public consultations and expert reports. This updated version, produced by the rail operator, lists and describes all the potential environmental impacts of the Lac-Mégantic rail bypass. It includes information on wetlands, drinking water, forests, and other studies conducted on noise and vibrations from train traffic. It also proposes mitigation measures to limit or reduce potential negative impacts.

Why comment on this report? This assessment will be part of the authorization request to the Canadian Transportation Agency. Your comments will help the rail operator prepare to submit the project to the Agency. Construction work can only begin after getting all regulatory approvals, including from the Agency.
