Important news: Consultation by the Canadian Transportation Agency!
The Canadian Transportation Agency (the Agency) has deemed the application complete for the purposes of consultation for the construction of the Lac-Mégantic rail bypass under Section 98 of the Canada Transportation Act.
The Agency will hold its public consultation process from November 12 to December 23, 2025 (covering 30 business days). The consultation will be available on the Agency’s website: otc-cta.gc.ca/megantic as of November 12, 2025.

This is another key milestone before construction begins! The project’s construction can only start once certain regulatory authorizations have been obtained, including the Agency’s approval.

Visit the Agency’s website at otc-cta.gc.ca/megantic as of November 12, 2025, to review the application and submit your comments by email to: megantic@otc-cta.gc.ca.
You can also consult a paper copy of the application in-person at the municipalities’ city halls as per the following schedule: in Nantes from November 12 to 25, in Frontenac from November 26 to December 9, and in Lac-Mégantic from December 10 to 23. Please note that documents will be available for consultation during municipalities' city halls opening hours.
The Agency will hold two in-person sessions on December 2, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Centre sportif Mégantic in the Bestar multipurpose room. All details, as well as information on how to register for the sessions, will be available on the Agency’s website at otc-cta.gc.ca/megantic as of November 12, 2025.

Next Step
Following the public consultation, the Agency will try to complete its deliberation and make a decision within 85 business days. At the end of this process, the Agency will publish its decision on its website.
