Expanding Indigenous search and rescue training

As part of the Oceans Protection Plan, a training program was developed to deliver training to coastal Indigenous Peoples in British Columbia in marine search and rescue, environmental response, and the application of the Incident Command System. The program was well received by Indigenous partners and helped participants play a greater role in marine safety in their communities.

Under the next phase of the Oceans Protection Plan, this program will expand nationally to offer search and rescue training opportunities to Indigenous communities across Canada.
