Important Safety Information On Sunshine Kids Radian Infant/Child Restraint System Safestop Load-Limiting Device

For immediate release
July 4, 2007

Transport Canada is advising the public that, when certain Sunshine Kids Radian infant/child restraints (listed below) were tested, it was found that, in certain tests, the SafeStop load–limiting device allowed a portion of the anthropomorphic test device's head to slightly exceed the 720-mm forward excursion limit specified in Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 213 – Child Restraint Systems.

Both Sunshine Kids Juvenile Products, LLC and Transport Canada urge parents and caregivers to continue using the original SafeStop load-limiting device with forward-facing child occupants weighing under 18.5 kilograms (40 pounds). Once you receive the replacement SafeStop kit, however, consumers should cut and discard the original SafeStop load-limiting device (black webbing with orange thread), and replace it with the new version (all black webbing).

Effective June 18, 2007, the new SafeStop load-limiting device will be made available to retailers and consumers. Replacement SafeStop kits will be distributed free-of-charge by the importer, Peter John M. Distributions Inc., to all retailers and registered consumers. Customers who have completed and returned their registration card will receive by mail the replacement kit in the very near future. Those who have not sent in the registration card should register online at www.skjp.com or by contacting Peter John M. Distributions Inc. at 1-888-597-0992.

Approximately 7,464 Canadian-marketed Sunshine Kids Radian infant/child restraints are affected. Restraint models and model numbers affected include: Radian C10600 and Radian Premier C18500.

A public information notice was issued by Transport Canada on May 18, 2007 and can be viewed online at: http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/childsafety/notices/tp14566P/2007p02/menu.htm.
