Update: March 17, 2020
Over the last week, Canada has implemented measures to contain the COVID-19 virus. One of the measures identified by the Public Health Agency of Canada was to conduct risk assessments when determining the public health actions related to mass gatherings. Further to the assessment, Transport Canada has decided that it would be best for the health and safety of APHoMSA participants and other Canadians to cancel the APHoMSA meeting scheduled May 5-7, 2020. The North American Marine Environment Protecting Association (NAMEPA) workshop scheduled for May 4, 2020 has also been cancelled.
Canada is proud to host the Asia-Pacific Heads of Maritime Safety Agencies (APHoMSA) 2020 in Vancouver, British Columbia, May 5 to 7, 2020.
APHoMSA began in 1996 to promote safe, secure shipping and a clean maritime environment in the Asia-Pacific region. It brings senior maritime officials together to share ideas and identify areas that they can cooperate on.
On May 4th, before the meeting, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be hosting a North American World Maritime Day Workshop on “Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet”.
The association will host the event and it will be sponsored by the Chamber of Shipping. As the maritime community moves towards 2030, the world expects that it will help to meet the United Nation's sustainable development goals.
The workshop teach participants about the results so far, what work is still left to do, and how to get it done to meet the objectives of the United Nations.
Below, you will find information about the APHoMSA 2020 meeting and NAMEPA Conference.
