Media Advisory - Important Safety Information On Evenflo Infant Restraint Handle Collapse

For immediate release
May 17, 2007

Transport Canada is advising the public that when using certain Evenflo infant restraints (listed below) as carriers outside of the vehicle, the handle may move out of the locked position allowing unrestrained infants to fall out of the carriers.

This issue is not related to its use in a vehicle. However, until a fix kit is received and the necessary changes are made, do not carry the restraint by the handle. Always ensure that the harness system is snugly adjusted to prevent any ejection of the infant.

Evenflo Company Inc., is offering, free of charge, a repair kit consisting of instructions, two new triggers for handle adjustment and a tool required to remove the old triggers and insert the new triggers.

Owners of affected restraint should contact the Evenflo helpline at 1-800-490-7497 to request a free repair kit for their restraint system. In addition, consumers may visit a dedicated website www.embracehandle.com to order a fix kit and view a "how to" video.

Approximately 27,688 Canadian-marketed Evenflo infant restraints are affected. Restraint models and model numbers affected include:

Embrace 3171446C; Embrace 3171478C; Embrace Premier 3201583C; Journey SE Travel System 5411466C; Aura Elite Travel System 5491578C;Aura Elite Travel System 5491634C; Aura Select Travel System 5501536C; Aura Select Travel System 5501651C; Ellipsa EX Travel System; 5981574C; Ellipsa LX Travel System 59991526C; Ellipsa LX Travel System 5991543C; and Ellipsa LX Travel System 5991583C.
