(Minister Garneau sitting at his desk. His cell phone rings and he takes the call.)
Minister Garneau:
Hi Santa! It’s always a great pleasure to receive your call. I just want to know are you ready to go over our pre-flight checklist together?
Mrs. Claus:
Hi, Minister Garneau…this is actually Mrs. Claus calling....
Minister Garneau:
Oh, hi Mrs. Claus…Is Santa all right?
Mrs. Claus:
Oh, yes, dear Santa – he’s fine. He's out with the elves packing the sleigh!
Actually, I was hoping we could go over the pre-flight check list together this year. You see, I’ve always had a great passion for flying and have been training to obtain my pilot licence. I wanted to confirm that I’m cleared for take-off.
Minister Garneau:
Well that’s very exciting news! Let me get your file...
Minister Garneau:
(Looks at her file and nods, impressed.)
Very impressive, Mrs. Claus! I see you’ve received your pre-flight checklist and it’s already approved by Transport Canada.
You’ve also passed your medical exam and your pilot’s exam with flying colours! Well done!
Mrs. Claus:
Thank you so much Minister Garneau. Does that mean that I’m cleared for take-off?
Minister Garneau:
You are definitely cleared for take-off Mrs. Claus and thank you very much.
You see, we have been working here at Transport Canada to try to bring more women into the aviation field to address the pilot shortage that we have.
So I’m very grateful for your help and I hope this will encourage more women to pursue exciting careers in the aviation field, just like you!
Mrs. Claus:
I appreciate your kind words, Minister Garneau. I hope to see you again next year! And Merry Christmas!
Minister Garneau:
(Turns to face camera.)
Well, Mrs. Claus and Santa are cleared for take-off in Canadian air space.
