Transport Canada (TC) is advising parents, caregivers and the public of a potential problem with the Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) shield booster seat. The problem could occur if the seam separates from the plastic abdominal shield in a collision, creating a pointed edge under the padded fabric cover in one specific area next to the child's abdominal area. The potential problem arose during TC crash testing of the seat.

There are 11,744 affected models, manufactured between February 3 and September 30, 2003. The affected models are:

Cosco Grand Explorer: #22-29C BVK
# 22-29C OXF

During its regular compliance enforcement-testing program, Transport Canada crash tested six Cosco Grand Explorer booster cushions. A seam separation of the plastic abdominal shield occurred in four of the units during the testing. In all four instances, the seam separation generated a pointed edge under the padded fabric cover in one specific area next to the child's abdominal area.

The company has developed a repair kit to be sent out to consumers of the affected units. A consumer with an affected unit can call the Customer Service 1-800 number (1-800-536-1090). A repair kit will be mailed to the consumer free of charge without delay. A repair kit can also be requested through their website: http://www.djgusa.com/usa/eng/Safety-Notices
