Response to Parliamentary Committees

On June 16, 2016, the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities issued its Sixth Report, “An Update on Rail Safety”. The report included 19 recommendations for the government. Transport Canada supports the findings of the study and continues to strengthen railway safety in Canada and the safe transport of dangerous goods as detailed in the government’s response which was tabled in the House of Commons on October 6, 2016.

On October 19, 2016, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts issued its 17th report, “VIA Rail Canada Inc., Special Examination Report of the Spring 2016 Reports of the Auditor General Of Canada”. The report included nine recommendations for the government. Transport Canada and VIA Rail Canada Inc. support the findings of the study and have undertaken or will undertake actions in response to the findings as detailed in the government's response, which was tabled in the House of Commons on February 15, 2017.

Transport Canada did not receive recommendations from reports tabled by the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications that required a response during fiscal year 2016-17.
