Canada's drone operation rules change on November 4, 2025.
Pilot licensing and drone registration are now based on the new rules, but you still must follow the current operating rules until then.
All pilots of drones or “Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA)” with an operating weight of 250 g up to and including 150 kg must hold a pilot certificate.
Part of getting your certificate is to pass at least one online exam.

Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations: Small Basic Exam
Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations: Advanced Exam
Pilot Certificate – Level 1 Complex Operations: You must pass two exams
