Strengthening Canada’s ship inspections

Today, there is a surge in demand for globally and nationally for goods moved by ship. New products, vessel designs and technology, and more strict environmental requirements place greater demand on federal inspection programs that ensure these vessels are operating safely and following all applicable laws.

Through the next phase of the Oceans Protection Plan, Transport Canada will modernize its Port State Control program, adopting modern technology and incorporating enhanced inspections for tankers. The Cargo Inspection Program will also be modernized to keep pace as export demands increase and the industry transitions to the use of more modern tools, such as automation and remote technology.
