Administrative Burden Baseline - 2016

The Administrative Burden Baseline provides Canadians with a clear metric on the total number of requirements in federal regulations and associated forms that impose administrative burden on business. This baseline contributes to the openness and transparency of the federal regulatory system.

All federal regulations administered by Transport Canada that have requirements that impose administrative burden on business are identified below. During the period from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017, the Department amended one regulation, added four regulations and repealed three regulations which lead to a modest increase from the 2016 count of 30,458. The total June 30, 2014 baseline count was 29,694.

Many of the administrative requirements placed on business are fully automated and can benefit industry by providing key information about the current transportation industry outlook. This information is also used by Transport Canada to develop evidence-based policies and regulations that support economic development as well as the safety, security, efficiency and sustainability of Canada’s transportation system.
