Ms. Marcella Szel

Ms. Szel has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation industry and is currently chair of the board for TransLink, Metro Vancouver's transportation authority.

From 1977 to 2009, she held a number of senior leadership posts at Canadian Pacific Railway, including Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, with North American responsibility for customers, freight revenues, logistics, and intermodal terminals and auto compounds. Prior positions include Vice-President for government affairs, for corporate strategy, and for law.

Ms. Szel also serves on the board of Global Transportation Hub (Saskatchewan), is immediate past vice-chair of Port Metro Vancouver, and has held various other directorships.

Other leadership roles in the Canadian business community include serving on the board of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (Chair 1998-1999) and the Western Transportation Advisory Committee (Chair 2007-2009).

Ms. Szel holds an LL.B (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta (1975). She is a Queen's Counsel (Alberta 1998), was named one of Canada's Top 25 General Counsel (2003), awarded a Queen's Jubilee medal for community service.
