ABSTRACT:

The study explores how the changing dynamics of the Asia Pacific region and its economies will impact Canada and its transportation systems over the next 15 years, including Canada’s trade-related infrastructure. It describes global trends in the Asia Pacific affecting the region’s future development under the framework of five key drivers of change: 1) demography and society; 2) economics and finance; 3) energy and the environment; 4) technology and innovation; and 5) security. The report then shows how the complex interplay between these trends (in the context of the change drivers) will have important implications for Canada’s transportation future, and concludes with some key recommendations for the consideration of the Canada Transportation Act Review respecting measures that can be adopted to help Canada’s transportation system adapt to developments in the Asia Pacific region.
