Subject : re: locomotive emissions

Hello,
We have lived across the street from the Canadian Pacific Railroad line for 28 years and this gives me a great opportunity to actually be heard regarding the railroad. I will keep my comments short and regarding current emission concerns. We have tried to keep the trains abiding the 15 minute max idling time, to help with air and noise pollution, failing misserably. The trains use the line, west of Westwood and Davies, Coquitlam / Port Coquitlam, BC as part of their yard. In December 2010, one train actually idled for over 12 hours...then as it finally went to the yard, another replaced it. How are the locomotives permitted to idle like this causing noise and emission unchecked. Are their no consequences? Our neighbours call the 1 800 number to report these situations and nothing comes of it...they are the railroad. If this letter can help can help shed light on this problem and perhaps help stop this from continuing, this would be wonderful.

Please feel free to contact me for more information.

Thank you,
