Service and Digital Group

Mandate:

Service and Digital Group (S&D) leads the Department’s service modernization agenda and information management/information technology (IM/IT) program; specifically,

  1. providing digital and data tools to Transport Canada (TC) employees and management,
  2. service modernization (including digitization and data analytics) for services TC provides externally, and 
  3. enabling digital/data interoperability in the transportation sector.

This mandate advances one of TC’s key priorities, to transform the design and delivery of programs and services to Canadians to adapt to a changing world. S&D’s accountabilities also include the programs and governance required to meet the requirements of the Government of Canada’s Policy on Service and Digital to ensure client service experience and government operations are improved through digital transformation approaches.

Overview:

S&D helps modernize the way programs and services are delivered to ensure they meet the needs of users and are developed and delivered in an agile, consistent, and efficient way. This is done by engaging colleagues across the Department and providing advice, guidance, and support as follows:

  • supporting regulatory modernization;
  • reviewing, operating, designing, and delivering innovative, client-centric services using digital methods, products, and tools;
  • ensuring that TC information and IT assets mitigate cyber risk;
  • ensuring a mature enterprise architecture is aligned with the Government of Canada’s business architecture and leading major enterprise projects;
  • developing, implementing, and maintaining departmental IM/IT security infrastructure;
  • increasing maturity of data services and improving data literacy;
  • introducing artificial intelligence to support advanced analytics, decision-making, and processes; and
  • providing modern digital tools.
