With the longest coastline in the world and ports of calls in the Great Lakes, Saint Lawrence River, Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans, Canada is firmly committed to advancing the work of the IMO.
As the first country to ratify the IMO Convention and a Council member since 1959, Canada has made significant contributions to support a safe, secure, and sustainable shipping sector.
- We supported the launch of the Underwater Radiated Noise Action Plan to protect the environment
- We were a founding member of the IMO Gender Equality Network to increase the representation of women in the marine industry.
- We participated in the GloFouling and GloNoise Partnership Projects to preserve marine biodiversity
- We worked to reduce air pollution through the creation of an Arctic Emission Control Area, which was adopted by the IMO.
