[Minister Alghabra]

Hello everyone.

Today, we proudly salute seafarers and recognize their important contribution to Canada and to our economy.

From fishing boats to ferries, to cruise ships and rescue boats, seafarers are an invaluable part of our society.

Every day, they safely and efficiently move goods and people along our coasts and waterways.

Having the longest coastline in the world, Canada relies very much on maritime trade and on the women and men behind it.

Canada relies very much on maritime trade. There's no doubt that mariners play a big part in keeping supply chains running smoothly so that goods move efficiently, thanks to the hard work of committed seafarers.

I’d like to thank the International Maritime Organization for highlighting mariners’ work on this Day of the Seafarer.

And, to all mariners: thank you for the work you do! May your voyages have fair winds and following seas.
