Notice – New edition of CSA B625 is published

A new edition of the following standard has been developed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Technical Committee on Portable tanks for the transport of dangerous goods, and was published in March 2020:

CSA B625-20 “Portable tanks for the transport of dangerous goods”.

Coming into force

In accordance with Section 1.3.2 of the TDG Regulations, this newly published standard comes into force on September 30, 2020, however, stakeholders may begin transitioning to these new standards at any time before this date.

Most notable changes

The most notable changes that appear in the new edition of this standard are summarized below:

  • alignment of technical requirements with the 20th edition of the UN Recommendations
  • revised quality manual requirements to allow for harmonized documentation requirements with CSA B620 for those facilities also registered under the safety standard for Highway and TC portable tanks
  • restructuring of registration requirements to simplify the number of registration types
  • limiting the pressure vessel code acceptability of foreign-approved tanks to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1 or 2. Foreign-approved tanks built after 2018 to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1 and used for Class 2 or toxic inhalation hazard dangerous goods will need to be U-stamped

The CSA Group has launched an online platform that allows registered users free access to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) safety standards published by CSA Group referenced in federal TDG regulations. Users can now log into Communities of Interest and register to find the TDG View Access site.
