What is the scope of the standard?
The CSA -B621 standard sets out the requirements for selection, use, handling, filling and unloading of highway tanks, TC portable tanks and other large containers, for transportation of dangerous goods included in Classes 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 and 9. The standard does not apply to TC 56, CTC 56, DOT 56, TC 57, CTC 57, or DOT 57 that are no longer manufactured but are still authorized for use as set out in CAN/CGSB-43.146.
Where is the standard referenced in the TDG Regulations?
Section 5.14 of the TDG Regulations specifies that a means of containment in accordance with CSA B621 is a permitted container for the transport of dangerous goods in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 and 9, by road or by ship.
How do I view the standard for free?
The CSA Group has launched an online platform that allows registered users free access to Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) safety standards published by CSA Group referenced in federal TDG regulations. Users can now log into Communities of Interest and register to find the TDG View Access site at https://community.csagroup.org/community/ohs/tdg-standards-view-access#.

A copy of this standard can be purchased from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
When does the 2020 version of CSA B621 come into effect?
This standard has come into effect 19 November 2020 but the regulatory amendment provides a period of transition that allows a person to comply with the 2014 standard until 31 May 2021.
What is the status of the next edition?
The CSA Technical Committee on the B621 standard is continuously working on the next edition.
