We issue Ship Safety Bulletins for the marine community. Visit our Website at www.tc.gc.ca/ssb-bsn to view existing bulletins and to sign up to receive e-mail notices of new ones.

Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security conducts Concentrated Inspection Campaigns (CIC) to address specific areas where our inspectors have found high levels of deficiencies, or where new convention and/or regulatory requirements have recently entered into force. We conducted our first CIC on domestic vessels in 2012/13.

Our CICs:

  • encourage safety by promoting compliance among vessel owners;
  • give us greater insight into the level of compliance of vessels that may not be found during periodic/compliance inspections; and
  • give our inspectors more in-depth knowledge of certain areas of vessels.

Announcing the 2016/17 CIC:

In 2016/17, we will conduct our CIC on about 90 select vessels, during periodic inspections, to minimize the impact on vessel operations. Our focus will be to review compliance with the Canada Shipping Act 2001 and the Marine Transportation Security Act.

This includes such items as ensuring our inspectors have validated updates to documents during previous inspections, stability booklets reflect the vessel build, etc.
