Subject: Marine Emergency Duties ( MED ) Training Requirements for Engineer Officers

Pending the proclamation of proposed Regulations respecting "Examination of Masters and Seamen" the Board of Steamship Inspection in their decision # 4985 has ruled that "The following MED training courses are to be completed by candidates who hold or apply for certificates of competency as Marine Engineers":

Certificate of-Competency MED course requires
First Class Engineer
Second Class Engineer
Third Class Engineer
C and D
Fourth Class Engineer — B1, B2, and C
Chief Engineer Motor Driven B1 and B2
Fishing Vessel
Watchkeeping Engineer Motor
Driven Fishing Vessel
Engine Room Rating/Assistant

The above ruling becomes effective on June 1, 1991.
