Navigating safely during flood conditions

Flooding poses significant challenges to navigation on Canada's waterways, affecting both the safety of individuals and the integrity of property.

In response to flood conditions, Transport Canada may put processes in place (for example, emergency works and managing obstructions) under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act (CNWA) to protect public safety and property.

These processes are available to ensure the safety of boaters and shoreline residents, protect temporary infrastructure, prevent property damage, and facilitate the work of emergency responders. Such restrictions do not apply to emergency and support vessels.
