Date (Y-M-D) : 2025-06-13
Scope
This bulletin applies to:
- Canadian passenger vessels inspected by Transport Canada
- Canadian passenger vessels inspected by Canadian Recognized Organizations
Purpose
This bulletin announces the 2025 Concentrated Inspection Campaign for passenger vessels.
Background
Transport Canada runs Concentrated Inspection Campaigns on the Canadian domestic fleet to deal with specific areas that our Inspectors have flagged, or when new international requirements have come into force.
These campaigns:
- help us better understand how well vessels follow the rules (regulations),
- improve safety by encouraging vessel owners to comply with the rules, and
- help our Inspectors better understand certain areas of vessels.
What you need to know
The 2025 campaign will focus on passenger vessels that have been certified by Transport Canada or Canadian Recognized Organizations. The Concentrated Inspection Campaign will be done between June 15 and September 15, 2025.
The goal of this year’s campaign is to make sure that passenger vessels comply with the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 and its related rules (regulations). The focus of this Concentrated Inspection Campaign is to review the safe operations of a vessel, targeting specific areas while the vessel is in operation. Some parts of this inspection are based on recent findings and recommendations from the Transportation Safety Board.
During this campaign, we will review things like:
- safety briefings,
- evacuation procedures, and
- how you maintain lifesaving and firefighting equipment onboard.
