Description: Contributions to the Government of Quebec related to the Outaouais Road Agreement for highway improvements made to enhance overall efficiency and promote safety, while encouraging regional and industrial development and tourism in the National Capital Region.

Strategic Outcome: An efficient transportation system

Results Achieved: The Highway 5 project is currently the principal active project related to the Outaouais Road Agreement. The project is divided into several phases: Phase I in the municipality of Chelsea was completed in November 2009; Phase II is divided into two sections, one in the municipality of Chelsea, the other in the municipality of La Pêche. Construction began in February 2011 for the Chelsea section and in summer 2012 for the La Pêche section. Phase II is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2014 (revised from August 2013).

Comments on variance: The project has fallen behind schedule in certain areas. In particular, delays have been encountered on structural work, and this has resulted in lower expenses than forecasted for 2013-14.
