Before you apply

Before you apply, use the Project Review Tool to determine whether:

  • your work will be located on a waterway listed on the Schedule
  • your work may interfere with navigation or not
  • your project is categorized as a major or minor work

Documents you need to apply

An application for an approval of works, must include:

  • a map showing the work’s exact location
  • the legal site description and position of the work in latitude and longitude
  • the plan view drawings (top down) with all related dimensions
  • the profile view drawings (side view) with all related dimensions
  • the general arrangement drawing (depicting new and entire existing work)
  • a detailed project description
  • an explanation of the construction methods the project will use
  • the expected start and end dates

An application for an exemption, must include:

  • a project description
  • an explanation of how the project will impact navigation and a description of alternatives
  • consultation information
  • environmental assessment
  • a rationale that explains why you believe you need an exemption
