List of ports under the PATP

The Ports Asset Transfer Program (PATP) was created to facilitate the transfer of Transport Canada-administered port facilities.

Available port facilities

The following facilities are available for transfer through this program.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Charlottetown

 

Charlottetown is located on the east coast of Newfoundland, at Bonavista Bay, approximately 250 km west of St. John's.       

Facilities
  • wharf: creosoted treated timber crib structure, 61.15 m long by 9.15 m wide
  • gravel approach road: 434 m long by 8 m wide

Marystown

 

Marystown is located in Mortier Bay, an inlet on the western shore of Placentia Bay on Newfoundland’s southern coast.

Quebec

Baie-Johan-Beetz

 

Baie-Johan-Beetz is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 925 km downstream from Quebec City, in the Lower North Shore Region.

Blanc-Sablon

 

Blanc-Sablon is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It is very close to the border between the provinces of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, about 1,500 km downstream from Quebec City, in the Lower North Shore Region.

Chandler

 

Chandler is located on the south coast of the Gaspé Peninsula, at the entrance to Chaleur Bay, about 715 km east of Quebec City and 130 km southwest of Gaspé.

Harrington Harbour

 

Harrington Harbour is located on an island near the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 263 km west of Blanc-Sablon and 1,200 km east of Quebec City, in the Lower North Shore Region.

Kegaska

 

Kegaska is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 200 km east of Havre Saint Pierre in the Lower North Shore Region.

La Romaine

 

La Romaine is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 1,000 km east of Quebec City, in the Lower North Shore Region.

La Tabatière

 

La Tabatière is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 180 km west of Blanc-Sablon, in the Lower North Shore Region.

Les Méchins

 

Les Méchins is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, about 45 km east of Matane.

Miguasha

 

Miguasha is located on the north shore of Chaleur Bay, about 20 km west of Carleton and 530 km from Quebec City.

Mont-Louis

 

The wharf site is located east of the village of Saint-Maxime-du-Mont-Louis, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, about 560 km downstream from Quebec City.

  • Wharf has been demolished and is being transformed into a breakwater.

Natashquan

 

Natashquan is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 400 km east of Sept-Îles, in the Lower North Shore Region.

Paspébiac

 

Paspébiac is located on the north shore of Chaleur Bay, about 195 km southwest of Gaspé.

Pointe-au-Père

 

Pointe-au-Père is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence Estuary, 10 km east of Rimouski.

Facility
  • wharf converted into riprap with a driving surface.

Portneuf

 

Portneuf is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, about 55 km upstream from Quebec City.

Facilities
  • wharf is closed, use and access prohibited
  • access pier about 10 m wide by 1 km long

Saint-Augustin

 

St-Augustin is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 1,368 km east of Quebec City, in the Lower North Shore Region.

  • wharf with 1 berth – can accommodate 2 berths for small vessels
  • shed: 316 m2
  • office: 75 m2
  • apartment: 75 m2

Saint-François

 

Saint-François is located on the south shore of Île d'Orléans, about 10 km downstream from Quebec City.

Facility
  • closed wharf; mooring prohibited.

Tête-à-la-Baleine

 

Tête-à-Baleine is located on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, about 180 km west of Blanc-Sablon, in the Lower North Shore Region.

Ontario

Owen Sound

 

Owen Sound is located on the Southwest quadrant of the Georgian Bay at the mouth of the Sydenham River.

Facilities:
  • west harbour wall: 1,241.4 m long
  • east harbour wall: 1,143.08 m long

Pelee Island

 

Scudder Wharf on Pelee Island, Lake Erie is located on the north shore of the island, which is 26.2 km south of Leamington (on the mainland). The adjacent pier, timber jetties, floating docks and rubble breakwater, all to the east of the wharf, are under the administration and control of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Facilities:
  • wharf: 255 m long, 13.74 m narrowing to 6.63 m wide at inner end

South Baymouth

 

South Baymouth is located on the southeast side of Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron.

Facility:
  • ferry wharf, 110 m long and 5 m wide.

Tobermory

 

Tobermory is located on the northern end of the Bruce Peninsula in Lake Huron.

Facilities:
  • new ferry wharf: 135 m (width varies from 4.5 m to 14.6 m)
  • old ferry wharf: 125 m (width varies from 4.5 m to 14.6 m)

Walpole

 

The Walpole Island Ferry Terminal is located at the First Nation Reserve of Walpole Island, near the northeast corner of Lake St. Clair. The terminal is situated on the western edge of the island along the east bank of the St. Clair River.

Alberta

Fort Chipewyan

 

Fort Chipewyan is located on the northwest shore of Lake Athabasca.

Facilities:
  • 1 approach: 5.5 m by 51.8 m
  • 3 breakwaters (steel pile with rock fill)
  • 1 concrete boat launching ramp: 8.2 m by 40.9 m
  • 1 timber wharf: 57.6 m by 8.7 m
  • 1 gravel surfaced loading ramp
  • 1 float: 2.7 m by 28.7 m

British Columbia

Bamfield West

 

Bamfield is located in the northern part of Vancouver Island on Barkley Sound. The facility is a deep water port.

  • 1 wharf: 18.30 m by 9.10 m
  • 1 wooden float: 2.7 m by 24.4 m
  • 1 gangway: 1.2 m by 11.0 m

Bella Bella

 

Bella Bella is located on the Inside Passage of Vancouver Island, 181 km north of Port Hardy on Vancouver Island and 144 km west of Bella Coola.

Facilities:
  • 1 approach with wooden plank breakwater
  • 1 wharf: 15.2 m by 54.45 m
  • 2 gangways: 1.5 m by 13.4 m
  • 2 floats: 3.7 m by 27.4 m and 2.7 m by 30.5 m
  • 1 registered seaplane float: 2.7 m by 30.4 m for boats

False Bay

 

False Bay is located on Lasqueti Island off the east coast of Vancouver Island.

Facilities:
  • 1 approach: 4.3 m by 57.9 m
  • 1 wharf: 12.2 m by 30.5 m
  • 2 gangways: 1.5 m by 13.8 m
  • 4 solar-powered lights
  • 1 seaplane float: 2.7 m by 13.7 m
  • 1 derrick: 3 tons or 2,700 kg
  • 2 floats: 4.3 m by 36.6 m and 2.7 m by 12.2 m
  • 1 shed

Klemtu

 

Klemtu is located approximately 219 km north of Port Hardy on Swindle Island, in the coastal fjords. It is a deep water port.

Note: shed with red roof was removed in 2014.

Kyuquot

 

Kyuquot is located on Walters Island off Northern Vancouver Island.

  • 2 floats: 3.7 m by 51.8 m and 2.7 m by 52.1 m
  • 2 gangways: 1.5 m by 11 m and 1.2 m by 11 m

Owikeno (Rivers Inlet)

 

Owikeno (Rivers Inlet) is located about 65 km north of the northern tip of Vancouver Island.

Facilities:

  • 1 gangway: 1.2 m by 12.2 m
  • 1 float: 3.0 m by 12.2 m
