The Ports Asset Transfer Program (PATP) was created to facilitate the transfer of Transport Canada-administered port facilities.
New ownership can help ports thrive and create jobs. New owners may also be able to expand or improve port facilities for continued marine operations or for alternate uses that meet local needs.
Acquiring a port facility
The following parties are eligible to acquire a port facility:
- other federal departments and federal agent-Crown corporations
- provincial governments
- municipalities
- Indigenous groups
- Canada Port Authorities
- the general public
Funding incentives may be available to individuals or groups. If you or your organization are eligible, Transport Canada will negotiate the amount of funding with you directly.
