Problem:

Britax and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of non-compliant labels on the Roundabout 55 Infant/Child Restraints.

A French warning label and the fitment guide label incorrectly identify the forward facing height. The correct height ranges are as stipulated on the English label as well as in the bilingual instruction manual.

In addition, the National Safety Mark incorrectly indicates the Roundabout 55 is certified to CMVSS 213 and 213.2 instead of CMVSS 213 and 213.1.

Safety Risk:

Use of the restraint system is not affected where the correct height ranges as stipulated on the English label and in the bilingual instruction manual are followed.

The numbering error on the National Safety Mark will also not affect the safety of the restraint system, as it has been designed and tested to meet the requirements set out for child restraint and infant restraint systems.

Background and Company Action:

Transport Canada received notification from Britax, advising of an error on the French language labels and the National Safety Mark label.

The French warning label and the fitment guide label incorrectly list the forward facing height as 124.5 cm (49 in.) instead of the correct height of 116.8 cm (46 in.) as described on the English version of the identical label and in the bilingual instruction manual.

The National Safety Mark label incorrectly indicates that the Roundabout 55 is certified to CMVSS 213 and 213.2 instead of CMVSS 213 and 213.1. CMVSS 213 specifies the federal safety requirements for Child Restraint Systems, while CMVSS 213.1 and CMVSS 213.2 specify requirements for Infant Restraint Systems and Booster Seats, respectively.

Britax has initiated a voluntary campaign to replace the non-compliant labels.

Consumer Recourse:

Britax will send all registered consumers and retailers a repair kit with the necessary replacement labels and placement instructions. Consumers with questions should contact Britax Consumer Services at 1-888-427-4829.

Until the French language labels can be replaced, the restraint system can continue to be used in accordance with the English language label and the bilingual instruction manual.
