Issue:

Diono LLC (Diono) is informing the public of a non-compliance for Diono Cambria 2 booster seats made between September 5th, 2020 and November 30th, 2020. Specifically, the headrest of these Cambria 2 booster seats can completely separate during dynamic crash testing, and therefore, do not meet the full dynamic requirements of the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations.

Safety Risk:

Diono has indicated that the headrest could detach from the booster seat during a severe frontal crash, while the seat is occupied, and possibly contact another occupant or object in the vehicle. Diono suggests to remove the backrest and use the Cambria 2 as a backless booster until receiving the replacement kit.

Company Action:

Diono will undertake a voluntary recall of all affected seats and will be issuing a recall notice to all registered owners, retailers and distributors in April 2021. Diono will be making a new backrest (including headrest) available to customers to replace the existing backrest. For the consumer, the installation of the replacement backrest will be similar to the assembly that is required when new product is removed from the box. The replacement will come without a cover in a box, along with an instructional leaflet on how to install it. Diono will begin shipping remedy kits to customers in May 2021. More information, including the recall notice, can be found on Diono.ca/safety-notices and on their Diono Facebook channel.

Consumer Recourse:

Owners of the affected booster seats may also contact Diono’s customer service at 1-866-954-9786 or dionoca@diono.com to request their new backrest (including headrest) with instructions, or for any questions concerning this issue.
