Issue:
Evenflo and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of an omission on the National Safety Mark label affixed to the side of a limited number of Secure Ride infant restraint systems. The National Safety Mark ( NSM ) is the round label with the maple leaf and the designated manufacturer/importer identifier number in the centre. This label also indicates the specific Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard(s) ( CMVSS ) with which the restraint system complies. The NSM that has been affixed to the Secure Ride infant seat indicates that the seat complies only with the infant seat standard ( CMVSS 213.1), whereas the NSM should state compliance with both the infant seat standard and the child seat standard ( CMVSS 213.1, 213) due to the seat’s weight rating. The corrected NSM will reflect the full certification status of the product and allow consumers to use the product as intended by the manufacturer, as indicated in the instruction manual and other labelling affixed to the infant seat.
Safety Risk:
None – the incorrect NSM will not affect the safety of the infant seat.
Background and Company Action:
Transport Canada was made aware that the incorrect NSM label was affixed to the Secure Ride infant/child seat. Transport Canada immediately informed the manufacturer of the incorrect label.
The label was changed on all Secure Ride seats manufactured after September 7, 2011. All retailers in Canada to whom affected products were sent will be advised regarding the proper handling of the remaining inventory.
Consumer Recourse:
All registered and non-registered consumers should contact Evenflo at 1-937-773-3971 to receive, free of charge, a repair kit consisting of a new NSM label and instructions regarding the location to affix the label. The affected restraint systems should not be returned to the retailer.
