Issue

Certain Graco SnugRide 22 infant car seats do not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

During testing at Transport Canada’s test centre, Graco noted non-compliant results during two tests of the SnugRide 22. It was noticed that the specific shell and base combination for these tests were different than in previous tests performed on this model. Following additional testing and review, Graco has determined that the issue is specific to certain products manufactured on the dates mentioned above.

Safety Risk

The compliance testing performed showed that the loads felt by the 12-month old crash test dummy exceeded the allowable limits. Transport Canada and Graco are concerned that in the event of a vehicle collision, a SnugRide 22 using this same shell and base combination may transmit excessive loads to the child occupant which could cause injury.

Company Action

Transport Canada and Graco have actively investigated the issue. Graco has ceased all production using this shell and base combination, and will contact all registered consumers to provide them with instructions for obtaining a repair kit consisting of a new base.

Consumer Recourse

All registered owners will receive a letter containing instructions and information on how to obtain a repair kit for their affected products. The repair kit as well as instructions will be sent to affected consumers who register online at www.gracobaby.ca

Non-registered owners, or owners who have moved, should contact the Canadian distributor, Elfe Juvenile Products, at 1-800-667-8184 or service@gracobaby.ca to obtain a free repair kit or if they have any questions.

Consumers can also obtain information or register online for a free repair kit at: www.gracobaby.ca

While consumers are awaiting their repair kit, it is recommended that the users install the carseat WITHOUT using the base to reduce the risk of injury, in the event of a vehicle collision.
