Harmony Juvenile Products and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of a non-compliance observed during compliance verification that was performed by Transport Canada. The Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations require all lower connector systems to fit within a designated checking device in order to ensure that they can be correctly installed in all vehicles equipped with a lower universal anchorage system. The connectors currently installed on the V7 do not fit within the designated checking device as they are too wide. It is possible that in some vehicles, users may have difficulty installing the restraint when using the lower connector system.
The connectors currently installed on the V7 restraint systems meet the performance requirements of the restraint. There is no added safety risk by using the existing lower connector system, provided consumers are capable of installing the restraint system securely. Consumers who experience problems installing the restraint system using the lower connector system should instead use the vehicle seat belt, following the manufacturer’s installation instructions, until a compliant, replacement lower connector system has been obtained from the manufacturer.
Harmony Juvenile Products will make available new, compliant lower connector systems to all registered and non-registered consumers, upon request.
All registered consumers will receive a notification regarding this issue with instructions on how to obtain the new lower connector system, if it is required. Non-registered owners of affected car seats, or owners who have moved, should contact Harmony Juvenile Product’s customer service department (1-877-306-1001) to receive instructions regarding obtaining the new lower connector system, if it is required.
Consumers are also encouraged to review a separate Public Notice involving a structural issue with the Harmony V7 restraint system: Harmony Juvenile Products – V7 Structural Failure
