Issue:
KidsEmbrace and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of a non-compliance involving certain Friendship series combination restraint systems/booster seats. The lower connector system does not meet the dimensional requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations. Specifically, the connector appears to be too long.
Safety Risk:
There is a possibility that consumers may have difficulty attaching the connectors to their vehicle’s universal anchorage system. Consumers are encouraged to follow their user guide and pull on each connector to ensure it is locked on the vehicle anchorage.
Company Action:
Transport Canada’s compliance testing program uncovered the non-compliance condition. Upon being made aware of the issue, KidsEmbrace immediately redesigned the lower connectors to ensure that they would meet the regulatory requirements, and all future production will have the redesigned connectors.
Trillium Sales and Distribution has been made aware of the issue and if a consumer calls in having difficulty installing the KidsEmbrace connectors, they will be instructed to use the vehicle seat belt until they are provided with a new, redesigned lower connector system. Affected consumers will also be provided with instructions on how to replace the current connector system with the new revised connector system.
Consumer Recourse:
Consumers should ensure that they can correctly install the lower connectors to their vehicle and pull on each connector to ensure that it remains locked. Any consumer with difficulties should use the vehicle seat belt instead and contact KidsEmbrace, LLC by email or by phone, to obtain the redesigned lower connector system. The affected seats should not be returned to retailers or the company.
