Automatic crash notification

Description

The vehicle's system senses that a crash occurred and automatically contacts emergency services.

How this technology works

An automatic crash notification system is a safety feature designed to contact emergency services when a crash occurs. When contacting the emergency services, some systems can automatically provide the vehicle's location.

Some systems can detect when an air bag is deployed or when there’s a sudden and dramatic stop or slow down. In these cases, the system connects to an operator who can communicate with the driver and alert emergency services, if needed.

Operation

These systems use a vehicle’s integrated technology or a paired cellphone to alert emergency services when a collision occurs.

In some vehicles, this technology appears as a red SOS button located on the vehicle ceiling near the rearview mirror. The driver can push the button to contact the emergency responders.
