Consent agreements under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act

The Minister of Transport can enter into a consent agreement when a company or person has, or is believed to have, violated the Motor Vehicle Safety Act or related regulations.

When this happens, Transport Canada and the company/person will discuss and agree to specific terms and conditions. Completed agreements are registered in court and are legally binding.

If you don’t comply with the terms and conditions, it means you’re violating a Federal Court order and is enforceable at the level of the Federal Court.
