Transport Canada invites road authority cyber security practitioners from municipalities, provinces and territories to join our Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) cyber security Technical Community of Practice (CoP).
The Technical CoP is a space where road infrastructure owners and operators can discuss how best to implement cyber security programs and mature cyber postures. During these sessions, members are encouraged to participate through guided conversation and by sharing the experiences and needs of their organization.
Past Technical CoP topics have included:
- 7 Steps for creating or improving a cyber security program – Exploring NIST's recommendations for critical infrastructure cyber programs
- Building an incident response plan
- Case study – City of Ottawa traffic operations security evolution
- Disaster response and recovery for OT environment
- How to plan and run tabletop exercises
- Modernization case study from a major US road authority
- Operational technology (OT) governance frameworks – Options and alternatives
- Physical security for traffic control cabinets
- Testing your recovery plans
The Technical CoP is expected to take place every two months to ensure regular engagement and knowledge sharing among the participating road authorities. The next session will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 13:30 Eastern Time.
The topic of the upcoming session will be AI, Autonomous Vehicles, and Emerging Technology for Road Authorities, with guest speakers Damu Prabhu (Partner, Technology and Transformation, Deloitte Canada) and Robert Oates (Associate Director, Cambridge Consultants).
Each session is scheduled for 2 hours, with time for introduction, short and long presentations, and Q&A and discussion. During these sessions, members are encouraged to engage and ask any questions, participate in discussions, and share their experiences and feedback as appropriate.
