To protect children effectively, child car seats must be used properly and be installed correctly. This means that child car seat designs, labels and instruction manuals must be clear and simple to understand.
Transport Canada has:
- studied how well users understand seat belt labels and warnings and whether they are able to follow the directions for installing the child car seats;
- measured how new regulations and labelling requirements affected child car seat usability; and
- made recommendations for changes to child car seat design and labelling requirements that would make installing and using them much easier.
