GROUND SCHOOL POINTS
Flight Manual and any manufacturer's training publication.
Power plant manufacturer's publications.
Turbine/piston theory as appropriate.
PREPARATORY INSTRUCTION
Aim
For the student to learn how to convert safely and effectively from one type of helicopter to another.
Motivation
Thorough conversion from one type of aircraft is essential to flight safety. This is particularly the case where students convert from piston to turbine engined aircraft.
Airmanship
As appropriate to the air lesson.
Teaching Points
These should be as appropriate to type but should include a review of all exercises flown by the student so far. Particular attention should be paid to differences in:
- Performance limitations including:
- airspeeds in powered and autorotational flight;
- VNEs;
- Gross weight and C of G;
- engine and transmission limits; and
- emergency procedures.
- Handling characteristics including:
- control response;
- idiosyncrasies peculiar to type; and
- ancillary controls.
- Visual cues and instrument indications.

PRE-FLIGHT BRIEFING
AIR LESSON
- All previous air lessons should be reviewed. Particular attention should be paid to areas where performance and characteristics are in any way different.
POST-FLIGHT DEBRIEFING
TIPS FOR INSTRUCTORS
Time taken will differ from student to student depending on aptitude, experience and helicopter type.
