Incorrectly installed outflow valve (OFV) coupling - Civil Aviation Safety Alert (CASA) No. 2024-01

Attention:

Owners, operators and maintainers of Airbus Canada Limited Partnership Aeroplanes Model BD-500-1A10 and BD-500-1A11

File Classification No.: Z 5000-35
RDIMS No.: 20025277
Document No.: CASA 2024-01
Issue No.: 01
Effective Date: 2024-02-22

Purpose:

The purpose of this Civil Aviation Safety Alert (CASA) is to bring attention to the possible incorrect installation of the OFV coupling that can cause damage to the attachment points of the OFV and to the aircraft structure. If the OFV coupling disconnects, it could cause rapid cabin decompression.

Background:

During an inspection of the OFV coupling assembly on the final assembly line, the coupling was found to not comply with drawing requirements. The OFV coupling was mis-installed, resulting in damage to the coupling, as shown in figures below.

Recommended action:

Transport Canada recommends that owners, operators and maintainers carry out the inspection and corrective actions described in Airbus Canada Limited Partnership Service Bulletin BD500-213002 Issue 001, dated 03 October 2023, or later revisions, as required for affected BD-500-1A10 and BD-500-1A11 aeroplane serial numbers.

Within Canada, in accordance with the reporting requirement of Part V, subpart 21 (521) of the Canadian Aviation Regulation (CAR), owners, operators and maintainers should submit a Service Difficulty Report (SDR) to Transport Canada for the discovery of each reportable service difficulty. (Please note that if any incorrect installation or damage of the OFV coupling is found, an SDR should be submitted). Outside Canada, report any such occurrence in accordance with local reporting requirements.
