Inspection of EDO float installations

Aero Consulting Services Ltd. (ACS) has recently published some new instructions for continued airworthiness (ICAs) for the following EDO Float installation supplemental type certificates (STCs);

STC/LSTC No. FAA STC No. EDO Model
SA89-47 SA658NE 249-2870
SA90-140 SA845NE 249A-2870
SA91-68 SA946NE 628-2960

In addition to the above-listed STCs, ACS has identified the following EDO float models that may have limited supplemental type certificates (LSTCs) installed for which these ICAs apply:

289-2700
439-2705
597-2790

The ICAs are intended to address concerns regarding the quality control on some of the manufacturing processes Red Lake Seaplane Manufacturing used in the production of some of the EDO float attachment hardware. They are also intended to provide guidance to all affected EDO models with improved instructions for maintaining these installations. ACS, the STC/LSTC holder, has reviewed the impact on possible manufacturing deficiencies and has determined that any fatigue-related issues can be addressed by this conservative inspection program due to the nature of the loading in relation to the welds and other critical structural areas.

ACS has issued the new ICAs to all listed Cessna 182 owners with the above EDO models that have incorporated the corresponding STC/LSTCs. Any affected operator who has not received a copy should contact ACS at the following address:
