Nose Landing Gear Drag Strut Hydraulic Hoses
Transport Canada has recently received two reports of nose landing gear hose, P/N DSC252B4-0124, in-service failures; one of which required the use of the alternate gear extension. The SDR database contains many similar failures.
Bombardier has determined that these failures are due to incorrect orientation of the hoses during installation.
This problem and the recommendation to re-position the fittings attached to these hydraulic hoses, are addressed in the Dash 8 In-Service Activity Report, ISAR 2000-11. The maintenance manuals have also recently been amended to clarify correct hose installation.
To prevent premature failure of these hoses, Transport Canada strongly recommends operators of the DHC-8 series of aircraft verify the correct orientation of these hoses and fittings at their earliest convenience.
Any defects or further occurrences of this nature are to be reported Transport Canada, Continuing Airworthiness, Ottawa via the Service Difficulty Reporting program.
