Fee: $110
If you get a basic ultra-light aeroplane or build one from plans, you must register it.

What you need to do before you register
Before you apply to register, you must:
- Ensure your aeroplane qualifies as a basic ultra-light, which means:
- It has no more than two seats
- It was designed and manufactured to have:
- a maximum take-off weight not exceeding 544 kg (1,199 pounds), and
- a stall speed in the landing configuration (Vso) not exceeding 39 knots (45 mph) at the maximum take-off weight
- Apply to Civil Aviation for registration marks
- There is no fee, except if you wish to reserve a mark ($45) or reserve a special mark ($140)
How to apply
- Complete the Application for Registration of Ultra-light or Advanced Ultra-light Aeroplanes [PDF, 630 KB]
- Attach the following documents:
- proof of ownership:
- bill of sale, or
- statement of construction from plans or raw materials
- a photo of the aircraft’s ID plate, showing the:
- name of manufacturer
- model
- serial number
- proof of ownership:
- Enclose the aircraft registration fee of $110 (payable to the Receiver General for Canada) or pay using our Online Payment System
- Mail your application package to the Transport Canada Civil Aviation office in your region
