- Transport Canada’s priority remains keeping Canada’s transportation system safe and secure.
- Transport Canada is seeking an increase of $118.2 million in these Supplementary Estimates to assist the department in providing a safe and secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation system.
- The Supplementary Estimates allow Transport Canada to access funding within the fiscal year that was not previously included in the Main Estimates, such as funding announced in the Federal Budget

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
- Transport Canada has requested $118.2M through these Supplementary Estimates which is comprised of the following:
- $151.6M in voted appropriations:
- $64.7M to move forward with High Frequency Rail between Toronto and Quebec City
- $61.3M for the Oceans Protection Plan
- $22.6M for the Remote Passenger Rail Program
- $1.3M to implement the Safer Skies Commemoration Fund
- $1.3M for the Transportation Assets Risk Assessment Program
- $0.3M to the Province of British Columbia for the provision of ferry and coastal freight and passenger services
- $0.1M for the Clean Transportation Initiative
- $12.3M in Statutory Benefits for Employee Benefits Plan
- A reduction of $45.7M primarily due to transfers to Other Government Departments including:
- A transfer of $30.2M to the Department of Western Economic Diversification for the Hudson Bay Railway
- A transfer of $14.4M to VIA Rail Canada Inc. to further advance the high frequency rail proposal
