Transport Canada is proposing to increase its fees for marine insurance certificates from $98 to $142 to better reflect the process of issuing them. We issue marine insurance certificates to confirm that owners of large vessels operating in Canadian waters have valid and adequate insurance coverage to cover their liabilities under International Maritime Organization conventions.
The Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) Convention is expected to come into force in late 2027. Transport Canada is proposing to introduce a $142 fee for issuing a HNS Convention certificate for seagoing vessels carrying packaged or bulk HNS, unless the vessels are below 200 gross tonnage and only carry packaged HNS domestically.
