As described in the Privacy Notice, the Transport Canada uses both persistent and per-tracking cookies on some sections of the Web site.
Per-session cookies are stored in memory and are only available during an active session, in other words, while you are on the Web site. Per-session cookies do not permanently record data and are not stored on your computer's hard drive. Per-session cookies do not give the Web site access to anything else on your system, including any private information about you. Only the Web site that placed the cookie can retrieve it.
Persistent cookies are more permanent cookies that can be reread when you return to the site. The information in them is written onto your hard drive and remains there until the expiry date of the cookie or until you delete the file. They are used for tracking traffic patterns to and from our websites and can also be used on some portions to find out how visitors access, navigate and use the site.
You can set your browser to detect and reject cookies. Each browser has a different way of doing this, but most offer an option in the "Options" or "Preferences" section under "Security." For information on how to set browser preferences, refer to the "Help" section of your specific browser.
